Before Submitting an Application
The foundation financially supports inclusive projects led by families and organizations within a neighborhood or community, which contribute to the well-being of children and the respect of their fundamental rights.
Please read the following sections carefully before proceeding with your application. Any preliminary application that does not meet the eligibility criteria will be automatically rejected.
Admissible requests
- Valuing parents' experience and role as educators, both mothers and fathers, and encouraging their contribution to projects aimed at the well-being of children and the realization of their fundamental rights.
- Encouraging the participation of young people aged 12 - 17 in projects that concern them, valuing civic responsibility and fostering their social involvement in their living environments.
- Support the expertise of partner organizations working with families in the same neighborhood or involved in the same community, so as to optimize the usefulness of the resources allocated by FDG to the well-being of children and their families.
- Give priority to neighborhoods with few resources, where families with children are particularly isolated and vulnerable, or have to make do with "gaps in services" in areas of responsibility that normally fall to the State.
Ineligible Applications
- From parapublic organizations, government institutions or affiliates, local chapters of national organizations or their affiliates, individuals, religious or political groups, sports or professional associations, social economy organizations, or scholarships
- To meet emergencies, defend a cause, remedy a shortage of capital or reduce a deficit;
- Contributing to the organization's administrative costs or aimed at social housing projects;
- Targeting an international internship, or an international NGO project;
Contributing to a general fundraising campaign; or to the capital of an organization's foundation; or to a fund dedicated to the organization's sustainability - Contributing to an organization's matching program or endowment fund for the purpose of generating income.
Eligibility criteria
- Be a non-profit organization and be duly registered as a charity with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).
- Have one (or more) leaders committed and supported by the organization and who act in consultation with other stakeholders in the community with a view to social development and avoiding any duplication of efforts.
- Have developed the organizational mechanisms necessary for sound management practices, good planning and the appropriate use of human and financial resources, as well as the monitoring and evaluation of activities.
- Provide audited financial statements or a satisfactory review engagement. In the event that a foundation is associated with the organization, the audited financial statements of the two structures must be submitted to the foundation for review.
- Have a social relevance in the community where the organization is inserted and pursue concrete and realistic objectives compatible with those of the foundation and which contribute to the advent of lasting changes in the best interest of children and their families.
- Be willing to engage in a partnership relationship with the foundation and share its values.
- Promote actions that strengthen the autonomy of the people involved in the intervention and ensure their participation at each stage of the project, from design, to implementation, to monitoring and evaluation.
Frequently Asked Questions
When can we submit an application?
You can submit a preliminary funding application at any time during the year. However, internally, these applications are processed twice a year, on March 1 and September 1. Outside of these dates, your application will be processed on the next available date.
A response will be provided a few weeks after the submission deadlines regarding the continuation of the qualification process for your organization and project.
How much can a first contribution from the FDG be?
Normally, a first contribution does not exceed $10,000.
Once my application is submitted, what are the next steps?
Once your application is submitted, it will be reviewed by our team, and you will quickly receive a follow-up email, whether the response is positive or negative.
In the case of a positive response, an additional request for information will be sent to you in order to proceed with a second level of analysis, focusing on your financial statements and annual report. Finally, an in-person meeting between the members of your organization and the representatives of the FDG will take place to confirm the possibility of a partnership.
Do you directly support the mission of organizations?
The financial support we offer takes various forms, all aimed at the realization of specific projects. We see our support as an ideal opportunity to test initiatives that could eventually become recurring, thus benefiting from initial support from the FDG.
Can we apply for support over multiple years?
We offer long-term financial support, with no time limit. Our commitment is to support organizations sustainably, in line with our financial and human resources, to foster their growth and long-term viability.
